Talisker Storm Atlantic Challenge 2015 Limited Edition Bag (70cl, 45.8%)
Talisker Storm is a distinct, no-age-statement single malt released in 2013. Matured in a mix of refill and specially toasted American oak, it is celebrated for amplifying the distillery’s signature maritime taste and style.
The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge (TWAC) is widely considered one of the most grueling endurance events on the planet. In 2015, the race began on December 20, 2015, launching 26 brave international crews in solos, pairs, and fours from La Gomera in the Canary Islands on a 3,000-nautical-mile voyage to Antigua in the Caribbean.
This label design was used between 2013 and 2021 when the first single malt release from Torabhaig necessitated a label change to update "only distillery" on Skye, to "oldest distillery."
Founded in 1830 on the rugged shores of the Isle of Skye, Talisker Distillery is the island's oldest working distillery. Famous for its smoky, peppery, and maritime "Made by the Sea" flavour, its survival of a devastating 1960 fire and deep roots in local history make it one of Scotland's most iconic spirits.
Built by Hugh and Kenneth MacAskill in 1830 at Carbost on Loch Harport, the distillery's early years were notably controversial. The brothers acquired large tracts of land and displaced local crofters to make way for sheep farming before venturing into the whisky business. Despite the high quality of their spirit, the initial venture faced severe business setbacks, leading the distillery into bank control by 1848. On November 22, 1960, a worker left a valve on the No 1 coal-fired still open, causing spirit to bubble over the fire. The resulting inferno destroyed the still-house. The distillery was silent for two years while being meticulously rebuilt. To perfectly preserve the brand's unique maritime flavour, the owners built exact copper replicas of the original stills. Unlike modern condensers, Talisker utilizes traditional wooden worm tub condensers. This intentionally less-efficient method leaves more impurities in the spirit, resulting in the heavy, complex, and oily texture the whisky is known for. In 1988, Talisker was thrust into the global spotlight when it was selected as the sole Island representative for the highly successful Classic Malts of Scotland series. In 1892, Alexander Allan and Roderick Kemp took over; Kemp eventually sold his shares to buy the Macallan distillery in Speyside. In 1916, Talisker came under the control of a grouping of blenders that eventually merged to become drinks behemoth Diageo, who still operates it today.
The connection between Talisker and the RNLI is a celebrated, long-standing partnership rooted in maritime heritage. Because Talisker sits on the rugged shores of the Isle of Scotland's Skye, the distillery has a deep connection to the sea and supports the vital lifesaving work of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution. Talisker has periodically released dedicated, special editions of their flagship 10-Year-Old single malt (often packaged in rugged, sea-faring zip-lock bags or maritime-themed boxes) where a portion of the proceeds goes directly to the RNLI.
