Ski Country Birth of Freedom

Birth of Freedom Decanter by Ski Country - Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (80 US Proof, 4/5 Quart)

This 80 US Proof (40% ABV) Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey comes all the way from 1980s in the 4/5 Quart (75.7cl) limited edition collectors decanter "The Birth of Freedom" produced by Ski Country presented in its original packaging.

Foss Drug introduced a house bourbon called Ski Country in 1972 that came in a choice of three porcelain art decanters sculpted in the form of skiers. The porcelain liquor decanters were produced in limited quantities and bottled by Ski Country Ltd. in St. Louis, Mo. The Ski Country brand name was owned and registered by the Foss Company of Golden.

For nearly 25 years Foss would produce 195 different decanter designs, ranging from waterfowl and wildlife to Indians and rodeos. They were extremely popular and even spawned their own national collector club, catalog, newsletter, and yearly auction that attracted people from all over. By the 1990s the decanter craze was over.

Ski Country whiskey decanters are esteemed more as works of art than containers for alcohol, and are collectible. The subject of Native American figures as decanters began in 1974 and continued until 1983, ending with the Dancer series designed by Barbara Foss. The decanters are whiskey containers of 4/5 size with matching miniatures. There are approximately 29 different decanters including two sets of six. Ski Country released them in limited quantities and locations, which has contributed to their value.
