This 2016 release Arran single malt was finished in Madeira casks. 

This expression from the Arran distillery carries on the series of various wine cask finishes they continue impress with.

Finished in a Madeira fortified wine cask, this Isle of Arran single malt is bottled at 50% abv. The initial maturation takes place in traditional oak (refill) casks, before being moved to the Madeira casks for a period of time determined by Master Distiller James MacTaggart. It is he who must decide when the balance between the influence of the first fill Madeira casks and the sweet and fruity distillery style is just right. 

Although the Isle of Arran was once a hot-bed of distilling activity, there were no distilleries on the island for the majority of the 19th and 20th centuries. Arran distillery opened in 1995, and quickly became a firm favourite. They bottled their first single malt in 1998, a limited edition 3 year old in a glass decanter. Today the distillery also produces a peated single malt called Machrie Moor, and their parent company have opened a second distillery called Lagg on the other side of the island.
