Royal Caledonian Curling Club Millennium Grand Match - Gordon & MacPhail (70cl, 40%)
A Rare Selected Blended Scotch Whisky from Gordon & MacPhail, bottled for Royal Caledonian Curling Club's to commemorate Millennium Grand Match.
In 2000 to celebrate the millennium, the RCCC established a spin off event: an indoor Grand Match. An imaginary line between the River Forth and River Clyde divided the teams, and games were held at about 17 participating ice rinks across Scotland, with the winner being the side with the most accumulated points.
The Indoor Grand Match was so popular that it became a regular event, held every five years since. The last Indoor Grand Match was held in October 2015 and was won by the south.
The Royal Caledonian Curling Club also runs the traditional Grand Match, an outdoor curling event between the north and south of Scotland. The first Grand Match was played on January 15, 1847.
Gordon & MacPhail are one of the largest and most recognisable whisky companies in the world. Although they began distilling at the newly refurbished Benromach distillery in 1998, for most of their history they were an independent bottler. Their labels are recognised by whisky lovers the world over, and their licensed bottlings from distillery's like Macallan and Talisker in the 1970s and 1980s, when the companies were not bottling themselves, are a huge part of the success of those distillers today.
