Tuthilltown Spirits distillery opened in 2005 and in doing so, became the first whiskey distillery to open in the state of New York since National Prohibition had put an end to over 1,000 farm distilleries there in 1920. It is located within the historic Tuthilltown grist mill, converted into a distillery by founders, Ralph Erenzo and Brian Lee, over the course of two years. In addition to its popular Hudson whiskey range, Tuthilltown also produces a range of craft vodka, gin and liqueurs. The success of the operation quickly drew attention, and with it, outside investment. In 2010 the flagship Hudson brand was sold to William Grant & Sons, who later bought the distillery itself in 2017.
