Glenkinchie 24 Year Old 1991 Special Release 2016 (70cl, 57.2%)

Bottle No 4698 of 5928.

Part of the Diageo Special Releases 2016 collection aged for 24 years, this is the oldest cask strength expression from the distillery in this series with only 5,928 individually numbered bottles available worldwide.

Matured in refill European oak butts, this 24 year old Glenkinchie single malt is part of Diageo's 2016 Special Releases. 5,928 natural cask strength bottles were produced, making it the oldest official bottling of cask strength Glenkinchie ever released as well as the first matured exclusively in European oak.

Glenkinchie distillery was built in 1837 by the Rate brothers, who had previously operated another site called Milton, situated nearby. Glenkinchie was expanded to its current size in 1890, under the watch of Major James Grey. In 1914 they formed the Scottish Malt Distillers group, alongside Rosebank, St. Magdalene, Grange and Clydesdale, which in turn was folded into DCL (now Diageo) in 1925. It was an important constituent in many of their blends, particularly Johnnie Walker (of which it now the Lowland 'home' of the brand), and as such, did not have an official single malt brand until 1988, when United Distillers favoured it over Rosebank as the Lowland representative in the Classic Malts stable in 1988.
