GlenAllachie 10 Year Old Cask Strength Batch 9 (70cl, 58.1%)

After purchasing Glenallachie Billy Walker has been tirelessly tasting the casks from the distillery to see what wonders he can find. This limited release of cask strength 10 year old is from some of the maturing stock that impressed him and is only available in limited quantities.

“Every batch we create of our 10-year-old Cask Strength represents the direction in which we are taking The GlenAllachie,” Master Distiller, Billy Walker. The ninth iteration of this coveted decade-old batch release is no different, showcasing the richness and complexities of its honeyed spirit after maturation in the finest oak.

Guided by 50 years of experience and fuelled by his passion for wood management, Billy crafted Batch 9 with perfection in mind. A marriage of spirit from Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso Sherry casks, along with Rioja barriques and medium charred/medium toasted American Virgin Oak barrels, this mahogany malt sits proudly alongside its predecessors. Delivering classic Sherried notes of indulgent dark chocolate and dried fruits, coupled with sweet spices and red berries, this prized release is one to be savoured.

Batch 9 is bottled at natural cask strength of 58.1%, without chill-filtration or added colour.

Prior to 2017, when the distillery was acquired by master distiller Billy Walker, GlenAllachie whisky was most commonly found in blends.

Glenallachie distillery was built by Mackinlays in 1967 to meet the demands of its blends following an upturn in sales in the US. Built as a small compact distillery, GlenAllachie was the fourth distillery designed by William Delme-Evans. The complete whisky making process was gravity fed and combined with unusual horizontal condensers it was a triumph of engineering and design. In its short history it has passed through the hands of Invergordon Distillers and Pernod-Ricard. During this period the focus was always on the provision of blends, with over 20 years between the first Mackinlay’s distillery bottlings of its single malt and the next official release from Chivas Brothers in 2005. Now in the hands of Billy Walker, Glenallachie is finally being pushed as an increasingly popular single malt brand since 2017.
