Glen Scotia 18 Year Old release 2012 Highland Cow Image (70cl, 46%)

Glen Scotia 18 Year Old release 2012 Highland Cow Image (70cl, 46%)

The 18 Year Old was part of a core range, that was launched in 2012. The whisky matured primarily in premium quality bourbon casks. This is a discontinued eye-catching 2012 release for Campbeltown's only distillery not owned and operated by Springbank. Under the ownership of the Glen Catrine Company (who also own Loch Lomond distillery) Glen Scotia distillery has benefited from increased investment, and in 2012 released a revitalised range of single malt expressions. Each of these are emblazoned with outlandish, brightly coloured, wrap-around packaging featuring Highland Cows,

Despite having been mothballed several times throughout its history, Glen Scotia is a proud survivor of the early 20th century desolation of Campbeltown, once known as "the whisky capital of the world.” The Kintyre peninsula formerly boasted over 30 distilleries, but by the end of the 1920s, only this and Springbank remained. Shut for most of the 1990s before being re-opened by Loch Lomond Distillers, today it is one of only three in the region, with an increasingly prominent portfolio of distillery bottlings in comparison to its quiet output under previous owners.
