Inver House Green Plaid from 1980s with Jug (70cl, 40%)

Inver House Green Plaid from 1980s with Jug (70cl, 40%)

A blend of Superbly light Rare Scotch Whiskies distilled, blended and bottled by Inver House Distillers Ltd located in Airdrie, Scotland. This historic blend comes with a matching Jug from the same era produced by Setton Pottery.

The traditional way to savour scotch whisky is to add a dribble of water before sipping. True whisky connoisseurs say that adding a couple of drops of water to your glass actually improves and enhances the taste of the drink. A popular phrase used to talk about the phenomenon is that a drop or two of water helps to "open up" the taste of the whisky.

The Inver House Rare blend was first released in 1956 by Publicker Industries who in need of their own production facilities in order to keep up demand established Inver House Distillers in 1964. They also built Garnheath grain distillery and acquired Glen Flagler and Killyloch in 1965. Then in 1968 they opened Moffat maltings that has since become the biggest malting plant in Europe. Bladnoch distillery was added in 1973. Inver House also owned Loch Lomond for a short period of time in the 1980s.

In the 1980s due to the crisis, a great number of distilleries were mothballed. Inver House was hit hard. Bladnoch had to be sold in 1983, Glen Flagler was closed in 1985, Killyloch had been out of production for years, and Garnheath ceased production in 1986.

The late 1980s and the 1990s brought better luck for the company with purchasing five distilleries throughout Scotland - Knockdhu, Speyburn, Pulteney, Balblair, and Balmenach.

Inver House is still situated in Airdrie where their headquarters, a bottling plant, and warehouses all sit. It currently operates five malt distilleries in the Highlands and Speyside, including Balblair, Balmenach, Knockdhu, Pulteney and Speyburn, and produces the Hankey Bannister, Catto’s and MacArthur’s blends. it is now under the ownership of Thailand-based alcoholic drinks group, ThaiBev.
